A Florida deputy just checked a very specific box on his career bingo card.
After 25 years on the job, Cpl. Keisler of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to his first-ever loose emu call. The bird ignored commands, kicked with its powerful legs, and made a dramatic escape attempt on foot.

That plan didn’t last long.
Keisler lassoed the emu, then used his handcuffs to secure its legs. It marked the first time in his career he had arrested a bird.
“In my 25 years, I’ve never handcuffed an emu,” he said. “This is definitely a new one.”
The emu was unharmed and returned to its owner. Authorities confirmed all charges against the suspect were immediately dropped.
