We Searched For The Best Burgers in Mobile Alabama: Here Are Our Favorites

We owe a lot to the person who came up with the idea of putting a ground meat patty between two buns.

From the bottom of my heart – thank you!

We eat around 50 billion burgers a year, enough to circle the earth 32 times if arranged in a straight line.

So, where can you find the best burger in Mobile?

Well, here’s our list in no particular order…

Best Burger Places In Mobile AL

Callaghan’s Irish Social Club

Callaghans Irish Social Club

Callaghan’s opened its doors way back in 1946.

Ever since they’ve been a staple in the Oakleigh Garden District (a historic Mobile neighborhood).

Many Mobilians would argue that they have the best burgers in town – let’s just say I wouldn’t bet against those folks in a fight…

They even make their buns from scratch.

I’ve never seen the grills, but my expectation is that there are years of flavor stuck to them.

And as expected, the inside is a fun Irish pub.

It’s also a sports bar and music venue.

The Noble South – Downtown Mobile

The Noble South offers scrumptious Southern staples like shrimp & grits, deviled eggs, pickled shrimp, and fried catfish, courtesy of Chefs Chris Rainosek and Josh Lear.

But perhaps the crowning jewel on their menu is the cheeseburger.

It has an 8oz Wagyu Beef patty, caramelized onions, house-made ketchup, mustard, pickles, and American cheese, all cradled in a soft bun.

This restaurant has a rustic yet modern feel and is a forerunner in preserving Southern fare.

The Noble South does it by elevating familiar favorites that delight both locals and tourists alike.

Loda Bier Garten – Burger Joint

people eating outside at the loda biergarten in downtown mobile al

Loda has quite a selection of burgers on its menu – a total of 11 kinds.

Some of them are perfect if you’re looking for something a little out of the box.

For example, their “Hugh Jass Waffle Burger” comes with Conecuh sausage and a sunny-side-up egg; all sandwiched between deep-fried buttermilk waffles covered in maple syrup.

There’s also the “Mac Attack,” which consists of a deep-fried five-cheese mac n’ cheese patty on top of a regular grilled ground beef burger along with the usual fixings.

Loda looks at burgers as blank canvases and turns them into something unusual and exciting.

Butch Cassidy’s Cafe

Another great burger option in Mobile.

Home of the famous “Butch Burger,” Butch Cassidy’s has been in operation since 1993.

It’s known as a classic.

It’s a family-friendly place that serves fresh, delicious food, all cooked to order.

Among other things, they serve 11 kinds of burgers including angus beef burgers, all of which are pretty standard but done right.

Should you ever choose to go there, it wouldn’t be the worst thing to order their chicken wings, their second most popular menu item.

If you’re looking for a classic dive bar where you can chow down on a burger, have a few beers, and swap some stories, this is the place to be.

Roshell’s Cafe & Deli

Roshell’s Cafe and Deli  breakfast in mobile al

Formerly Mack’s Wheelhouse, Roshell’s is a hidden gem that locals still sing praises about.

This place is like an old-fashioned diner where the service is warm, and the meals are hearty.

A burger is called “The Steer” at Roshell’s, and you can order it in 15 different ways.

You can get one with Roquefort cheese or one with Mr. Mack’s original homemade chili.

A great choice would be “The Mack Attack,” which comes with three 8 oz. patties with all the trimmings if you’re up for a challenge. That thing is massive.

Roshell’s had to be on this list because The Steer is not just one of the best burgers you can get in Mobile but in all of Alabama.

Pro tip: Come here with a big appetite because even good eaters get a run for their money at Roshell’s.

Hammered Cow

Hammered Cow is a standout feature of ‘The Insider’ Food Hall.

Over there, they have a menu that showcases the inventiveness of owner Adam Womack and his wife.

They decided to embrace the internet-famous smash burger style over thicker pub burgers.

So, this is the place to get that crisp, flavorful alternative!

Guests can build their own “hammer” burger or hotdog, savor specialty burgers, and indulge in smash burger nachos.

This spot shares a space with four other food bars and beer and wine tap.

There’s also a bonus arcade hidden near the bathrooms, adding a fun twist to your dining experience.

Dick Russell’s Bar-B-Q

Dick Russell’s Bar-B-Q has been a Mobilian institution for over 60 years.

It first opened in 1954 by none other than Dick Russell himself.

The restaurant’s tradition of good food at reasonable prices still lives on today.

While famous for barbecue, their country burger is a hidden gem, which is unexpectedly delightful.

This spot holds a special place in my heart; it’s where my mother introduced me to what has become a nostalgic favorite.

A visit to Dick Russell’s promises delicious food paired with warm, attentive service.

It’s a classic!
