The Mobile County Animal Shelter is packed. Since July 26, over 80 new furry faces—dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens—have arrived at the shelter, and every kennel, crate, and corner is now spoken for.
Overflowing with wagging tails and meows, the shelter is sending out an all-hands-on-deck message: they need help finding homes, fosters, and fresh starts for these animals—fast.

Puppies, Kittens, and Plenty of Personality
Here’s the lineup:
- 80 adoptable dogs and puppies need out—20 of them are still in their puppy phase
- 9 cats and kittens are looking for lap time—7 are kittens
That’s nearly 90 adoptable animals, each one ready for a second chance and a permanent place to call home.
And there’s a silver lining: Commissioner Connie Hudson is stepping in to cover the costs on many of the adoptions. Right now:
- 60 adult dogs are fully sponsored—$0 adoption fee
- 20 puppies are partially sponsored—$40 or less to adopt
Walk In. Fall in Love. Walk Out Together.

Adoption day is more than a new collar and a car ride. Each adoption includes a whole package of essentials:
- Microchip
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Rabies vaccine
- Flea and deworming treatments
- Full set of vaccinations
- Heartworm test for dogs 6 months and older
Many of these pets are already fixed and ready to head home the same day.
Foster for a Week, a Month, or a New Perspective
Even if adoption isn’t on your radar, fostering changes lives too—both theirs and yours.
A few days in a quiet home can be the difference between shy and confident, sick and healthy, overlooked and adopted.
Fosters get supplies, support, and a direct line to shelter staff. Plus, it’s a perfect no-pressure way to dip your toe into pet parenthood.
The foster application is quick. The impact is lasting.
Click. Meet. Match.

Mobile County Animal Shelter has always been a place where second chances begin. Right now, those chances just need a little boost.
A walk through their doors might lead to more than just a tail wag—it could be the start of something big, small, slobbery, or soft.
