Ahoy, mateys! On July 26, the Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce will transform Tillman’s Corner Community Center into a pirate’s playground for its 12th annual Kids Day.

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., kiddos aged four to 12 can embark on a treasure hunt of free backpacks, uniforms, and school supplies.

With no pre-registration—just show up at W.C. Griggs Elementary School first thing—families can chart their course early and snag those must-have items before they walk the plank of “sold out.”

Treasure Trove of Free Gear

Forget hunting for buried loot—this event delivers it straight to your hands.

As soon as registration opens at 9 a.m., pirates-in-training will claim sturdy backpacks, crisp uniforms, and all the pencils, notebooks, and rulers required for a top-notch school year.

With supplies secured, families can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the financial “burden anchor” has lifted, freeing up resources for books, extracurricular adventures, or perhaps a celebratory ice cream sundae before classes begin.

Fun and Fanfare on the Docks

Kids Day isn’t just about gear—it’s a full-on carnival of excitement.

Over 50 vendors will flood the docks with everything from food trucks dishing out cotton candy and sliders to exotic animals ready for high-fives (and maybe a pirate hat or two).

Wrestling appearances will thrill the crowd, while healthcare booths offer quick checkups to ensure every young sailor is shipshape.

At noon, brace for the Beach Ball Drop, where hundreds of colorful orbs rain down like confetti over the cheering crew.

Navigating the Day’s Logistics

Plotting a smooth arrival is key to making the most of this adventure. Families can park at W.C. Griggs Elementary, the Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, or First Baptist Tillman’s Corner, then stroll over to the registration tent.

With ample parking and clear directions, the morning feels more like a leisurely treasure hunt than a frantic dash.

Best of all, the first-come, first-serve model rewards early birds with prime selections, so setting sail before the sun climbs high gives everyone a better chance to score those coveted school essentials.

Smooth Sailing into the School Year

By midday, bags bulging with supplies, young sailors disembark from Kids Day ready to conquer classrooms, playgrounds, and science labs alike.

Those freshly stocked backpacks become symbols of confidence, reminding everyone that the treasure of learning is within reach.

Community bonds tighten as neighbors celebrate shared beginnings and cheer on the next generation of scholars.

With spirits buoyed by laughter, freebies, and unforgettable memories, the countdown to the first day of school becomes an exciting voyage rather than an overwhelming trek.

Here’s to fair winds and full sails in the year ahead!
