September brings National Recovery Month, a moment dedicated to the resilience and courage of those battling addiction.

Across the country, millions of families are touched by substance use disorders, with the CDC reporting that 48.5 million Americans faced this struggle in 2023.

In Mobile, a faith-based nonprofit is using this month to remind the community that every day is the right day to take the first step.

Mobile Faith-Based Program Urges Swift Action on Addiction Recovery

Wings of Life and a Fresh Start

At Wings of Life in Mobile, Ricardo Martinez and his team believe recovery goes far beyond treatment.

The nonprofit runs a 90-day in-patient program and a follow-up transition phase designed to help people land jobs, rebuild relationships, and re-establish stability.

Martinez describes it as offering people “an opportunity at life”—a chance for healthy marriages, strong parenting, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

Facing Pain to Find Healing

Martinez doesn’t sugarcoat the work ahead. Recovery often unearths old wounds and difficult memories, and those moments can tempt people to give up.

But he explains that these uncomfortable revelations are necessary: they surface so true healing can take root.

The process can be emotional and challenging, yet every exposed memory is a step closer to a stronger, healthier future.

A Call That Could Change Everything

For anyone hesitating on the edge of change, Martinez’s advice is direct: “There is no time to wait. Today is the day to make a phone call and to start getting help.”

He stresses that the decision benefits more than the individual—it ripples outward to spouses, children, friends, and coworkers.

The sooner someone acts, the more room they create for growth and restoration.

Wings of Life is ready to answer that call at 251-751-5433, offering compassion, guidance, and a clear path forward.

Building Stronger Communities Through Recovery

Behind the statistics are stories of renewed purpose, repaired relationships, and stronger neighborhoods.

Each person who chooses recovery strengthens the fabric of the Gulf Coast community.

By seeking help and pushing through the hard work, individuals not only reclaim their own lives but also inspire others to believe in second chances.

During National Recovery Month, that message resonates loudly: hope lives here, and every single day is a chance to begin again.
