Grab the dice and clear the table—Mobile has officially landed on the Monopoly map.

After a year of local feedback, design tweaks, and hometown debate, the Mobile-themed Monopoly board is here.

Unveiled at the historic Malaga Inn, this edition doesn’t just hint at local pride—it shouts it from Bienville Square to the MoonPie Drop.

Top Trumps USA, the creators behind the custom board, said they chose Mobile for its “rich history, vibrant culture, and Southern charm.”

Open the box, and you’ll spot your favorite haunts, homegrown legends, and yes—plenty of fodder for heated family showdowns.

Local Pride Meets Board Game Fame in New Mobile Monopoly

Who’s on the Board? Who Got Snubbed?

Cue the friendly drama. The premium spots? Mardi Gras and Bienville Square, of course.

The four railroad spaces are pure Mobile mischief: Bankhead Tunnel, “Take the Causeway,” an airboat, and Airbus.

And the utility squares? Knockout Inspections.

Other properties read like a love letter to the city:

  • Bellingrath Gardens & Home
  • Bragg-Mitchell Mansion
  • Mobile Carnival Museum
  • Braided River Brewing Co.
  • University of South Alabama
  • Petal & Groove
  • Mo’Bay Beignet Co.
  • Urban Emporium
  • Wintzell’s Oyster House
  • Magical Christmas in Lights
  • Malaga Inn
  • Checkers (yes, the chain was founded here)

Each square brings a little spark—stories, flavors, landmarks, and memories. Some spots even made it on the board twice.

Others? Left out, sparking playful speculation. Who got overlooked, and why? It’s a fresh topic for brunch or back porch chatter.

Community Chest, Gulf Coast Style

Don’t expect the same old “Bank error in your favor.” These Community Chest and Chance cards carry a Gulf Coast spin.

One moment you’re rewarded for preserving Africatown’s history or winning the Liars Contest at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.

The next? You’re shelling out for hurricane supplies or flooding headaches.

Even the misfortunes come with local flavor—and maybe a laugh if you’re not the one paying the fine.

From Bay Minettopoly to Today

This isn’t Mobile’s first brush with Monopoly fame. A version called “Mobile-opoly” once made the rounds, thanks to the variant-happy folks at Late For The Sky.

That version swapped in Spring Hill Avenue, Dauphin Street, and Mobile Bay.

And then there’s the legendary “Bay Minettopoly” from 1989. Yes, really. Someone’s even selling one on eBay.

The game itself has deep roots in Mobile.

An old Press-Register column from 1936 captured Monopoly’s first surge through the city—where even “the butcher, the baker, and the janitor’s red-headed boy” were buying up imaginary hotels.

Before long, it wasn’t just a game—it was a local obsession.

Time to Flip the Table (Or Pass Go)

For those competitive souls out there, this edition is ready to test friendships. Local business owners are already joking about who made the cut, and who’s planning to flip the board when they land on that last hotel-laden strip.

As Urban Emporium’s Nicole Setterstrom put it, “I’ve been telling everybody I’m looking forward to flipping the board over when I don’t win.”

This isn’t just another board game. It’s a slice of local life, wrapped in strategy and nostalgia. Set it up, roll the dice, and see where you land—just hope it’s not three spaces past “Take the Causeway.”
