An Unexpected Visitor Trots Into West Mobile

A quiet driveway in West Mobile turned into the setting for a very unusual houseguest story last week. When Jamey Watt pulled into his yard, he spotted what looked like a dog hanging around near his pump house.

A closer look delivered the surprise.

It was a pig.

“I thought it was a dog over by my pump house,” Watt said with a laugh. “Come to find out, it’s a pig.”

The potbellied pig had wandered onto the property and quickly made itself comfortable. Comfortable enough, in fact, to stick around.

And stick around.

And stick around some more.

What began as a curious sighting turned into a full-time freeloading situation.

An Unexpected Visitor Trots Into West Mobile

A 100-Pound Squatter Settles In

This wasn’t a tiny piglet exploring the neighborhood. The unexpected visitor weighs roughly 100 pounds and carries itself with the confidence of an animal that has clearly decided this yard works perfectly for its lifestyle.

The pig has been busy.

Grass has been rooted up. Garden areas have been trampled. Decorative plants have been repurposed into a cozy bed.

In short, the pig has been living large.

“I just want him gone because I know what kind of destruction they can do,” Watt said. “But I can’t get rid of him.”

The animal seems to have discovered a steady buffet somewhere nearby. Each day it hangs around the property, happily returning after every attempt to move it along.

Eviction Attempts Have Failed

Watt has tried several strategies to encourage his new tenant to relocate.

One attempt involved a friend and a plan to gently chase the pig back toward the woods.

It worked. For about an hour.

“Me and a friend of mine tried to run him into the woods,” Watt explained. “About an hour later, he shows back up.”

The pig apparently knows the route back.

And he uses it.

Every time.

At this point, the situation feels less like a wildlife encounter and more like a stubborn roommate situation.

A Legal Gray Area for Animal Control

Watt reached out to local authorities hoping someone might help escort the pig to a new address.

He contacted both law enforcement and animal control.

The response revealed an unexpected wrinkle: the pig might belong to someone.

Without permission from the owner, animal control cannot simply remove it.

That leaves Watt stuck with a mystery.

“I have tried to find the owner and cannot find the owner,” he said.

Until the pig’s owner appears, the wandering hog continues its extended stay in the yard.

One Simple Request: Please Take the Pig

Despite the mess and the frustration, Watt has kept the situation lighthearted.

He has no plans to harm the pig and would gladly see it head to a new home.

Ideally, its actual owner steps forward. A second option also works.

“Someone needs a good pet,” Watt said with a smile. “A potbellied pig.”

Until that happens, the pig remains the most determined tenant in West Mobile.

And according to Watt, the lease has already expired.

“His rent’s due,” he joked. “And he needs to go.”
