Good news for Gulf Coast football fans who ride the rails: Amtrak is making room for more.

The Southern Rail Commission confirmed that an extra car will be added to the Mardi Gras train on Saints home game days.

This move bumps capacity by more than 60 seats, giving late planners a better shot at snagging a ticket.

The train has been a runaway hit since it began service last month, selling out its twice-daily trips between New Orleans and Mobile.

Amtrak Expands Mardi Gras Train Capacity for Saints Home Games

Smooth Travel for Sunday Football

Imagine stepping off at New Orleans’ Union Passenger Terminal with the crowd buzzing, a quick walk putting you at the Superdome gates, and a smooth ride back east that evening.

For noon kickoffs, the schedule lines up perfectly: passengers can catch the 5:31 p.m. train home without rushing.

For games that kick off later—four dates are scheduled for 3:05 p.m. or later—fans may want to soak up the city a little longer, grab dinner, or even stay overnight.

Packed Fall Schedule Ahead

The Saints’ remaining home games are on September 14, October 5, 12, and 26, plus November 23, December 14, and December 21.

With fall football heating up, the extra capacity could make these trips feel less like a scramble for seats.

Families, groups of friends, or anyone craving a stress-free ride to the Dome now have a better chance to book their spot.

A Boost for Gulf Coast Weekends

These added seats do more than ferry football fans—they open doors for weekend adventures.

An easy train trip can turn a regular Sunday into a mini getaway with a built-in tailgate atmosphere.

Restaurants, bars, and hotels along the Gulf Coast stand to see livelier weekends as travelers make their way to and from the games.

For anyone itching for a little change of scenery, the train offers a low-fuss way to add some excitement to fall plans.

Football, Food, and Festive Vibes

From beignets in the French Quarter to seafood po’boys before kickoff, this small schedule tweak carries big weekend energy.

A full day of football and food becomes simpler with reliable, roomy transportation.

The Mardi Gras train is proving to be more than a novelty—it’s shaping up as a fall tradition on the Gulf Coast.

For fans eager to ride the wave of Saints fever, those extra 60 seats might just be the golden ticket to a season packed with memories.
