This past Tuesday night, South Alabama took on Troy for the “Battle of the Belt.”
Fans and students packed a sold out Hancock Whitney Stadium, and The Jags were able to bring the belt back to Mobile.
Here’s a fantastic 2 minute recap video…
QB Gio Lopez was 16 of 21 passing for 158 yards and 1 passing TD.
He also tucked the ball and ran for a whopping 49 yard rushing TD.
Fluff Bothwell had 12 carries for 53 yards while Kentrell Bullock had 15 carries for 38 yards.
Javon Ivory had the longest catch of the game for 57 yards but Jeremiah Webb reeled in the catch of the night and maybe the year for the Jags only receiving TD of the night.
Darius McKenzie and Jordan Scruggs lead the defense with 6 tackles each. Ladarius Webb Jr., Jaden Voisin and Wesley Miller all had interceptions on the night, which stalled out Troy on several drives and help the Jags maintain momentum. Laith Marjan was 3 of 3 on Field Goals and was 2 of 2 on extra points.
Next up is Louisiana Monroe this Saturday at Hancock Whitney stadium for Homecoming.
Kickoff is set for 4pm. Louisiana Monroe is undefeated in Conference play and this will be a pivotal game for the Jags in pursuit of a SBC title.
