Advocates in Mobile and Baldwin Counties are gearing up for two events to lend a hand to those facing homelessness.
These aren’t just meetings or fundraisers—they’re action-packed, boots-on-the-ground events designed to make a real difference.
The first? A gathering at The Grounds that connects people in need with resources like housing, healthcare, and even legal help.
The second? A full-scale headcount of folks experiencing homelessness.
Both events are coming up next week, and they’re on the lookout for volunteers to step in and help make it all happen.
One-Stop Shop for Help
Next Friday, The Grounds will host Project Homeless Connect for the 11th year in a row.
Think of it as a giant resource fair.
It’s a place where people facing tough times can access everything from healthcare and housing assistance to legal services and even a warm meal—all in one spot.
The goal is simple: meet people where they are and get them connected to the help they need. It’s about giving people the tools to get back on their feet.
Imagine one day packed with hope, solutions, and community support. That’s the vibe.
Counting Heads, Changing Lives
Before Friday’s big event, there’s another critical mission on Thursday: the Point-in-Time Count.
This is where volunteers fan out across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, clipboards in hand, to get an accurate snapshot of how many people are currently without a place to call home.
“It gives us a better idea of who they are and what they’re facing,” says Leon Bell Jr. from Housing First.
The data from this count is a big deal—it helps organizations apply for federal funding, which can bring in more resources to tackle local homelessness.
Why It All Matters
These events aren’t just about numbers or stats.
They’re about real people with real stories. They’re about making sure no one falls through the cracks.
The Point-in-Time Count, for example, is a huge help in understanding what’s really going on in the community.
Each volunteer plays a part in shining a light on situations that might otherwise stay hidden.
For Project Homeless Connect, the impact is immediate.
Someone could walk in struggling with a legal issue or health concern and walk out with a plan and support in place.
How to Get Involved
Want to help out? Volunteers are the backbone of both events.
Housing First is trying to fill all the slots by the end of this week, so now’s the time to jump in.
These opportunities aren’t just a way to give back—they’re a chance to be part of something bigger. It’s good vibes, good people, and a chance to make a real difference. For more info on how to sign up, head over to Housing First’s website.
