The rejuvenation of the Three Mile Creek is in the works!
This is a project that will span seven months.
It’s meant to breathe NEW life into this historic stream channel located east of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.
It was the early 80s when the US Army Corps of Engineers decided to take matters into their own hands and straighten out a portion of the creek.
They wanted to tackle flooding issues in the area.
Now, the City of Mobile is stepping up to the plate with a realistic plan.
Because of funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund, they’re going to restore the channel’s natural flow.
This is not purely cosmetic, though.
This project will also connect the creek to the city and Mobile County’s ongoing Blueway efforts.
So, what does this mean for us residents?
Well, by dredging this historical channel, the water flow will improve, creating better conditions for our local critters and safeguarding their habitat.
This endeavor will also provide more recreational opportunities for all you adventurers out there!
We’re talking about kayaking and canoeing to your heart’s content.
During the project, you may spot construction equipment and boats along the Three Mile Creek.
In the meantime, if you’re concerned about navigating the waters there, don’t worry!
There will be signs near the site with clear instructions for recreational boaters.
Residents applaud the City for its dedication to restoring this critical waterway.
They’re not just fixing things up; they’re also ensuring the convenience of those who frequently use this portion of Three Mile Creek.
