Saturday was the home opener for the South Alabama Jags at Hancock Whitney Stadium. The Jags dropped the home opener 52-38 but it was not from a lack of effort.
Gio Lopez was 26/49 for 432 yards and 3 TD’s. He also rushed for 62 yards and scored a rushing TD. Leading the receiving core was Jamaal Pritchett who had 10 receptions for 197 yards and a TD. His longest catch of the day was for 52 yards and averaged 19.7 yards per catch.
Freshman Fluff Bothwell also scored a rushing TD in his first game with the Jags.
Shamar Sandgren and Anthony Eager also helped the Jags on offense with each having a receiving TD.
Fairhope native Blayne Myrick recorded 12 tackles on the night which also was a career high.
The Jags fought hard but it was a blocked punt that resulted in a TD and a fumble (later overruled to incomplete) that let North Texas keep the momentum when it counted.
The energy was electric for the home opener that included a pregame concert and Jag Prowl.
The Jags next game is on the road Saturday, September 7th against Ohio.
The following week the Jags return home on Thursday, September 12th at 6:30pm to take on Northwestern State at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Go Jags #ourcity !!
