The City of Mobile is now accepting applications for the next C251: Citizens Academy, a six-week program offering hands-on experiences and insights into local government. 

Running from September 18 to October 23, this program gives 40 Mobilians the chance to learn directly from city leaders.

Mobile Councilman William Carroll is pushing a new proposal to boost affordable housing by creating a capital improvement district that would revitalize underserved neighborhoods one property at a time.

downtown mobile gets a $30 million boost

Downtown Mobile is set for exciting upgrades, thanks to $6 million from the $30 million GOMESA grant awarded to Alabama for coastal projects.

Key improvements include the expansion of Cooper Riverside Park, new exhibits at GulfQuest Museum, and refurbishments at the Exploreum Science Center.

The Mobile County Commission has approved the construction of a $23 million aquatics center at the Mobile County Sportsplex, promising to bring world-class facilities to local swimmers. 

The center, which will include multiple pools, aims to boost Mobile’s sports scene and host major swim meets, enhancing the community’s athletic offerings.

The Mobile County Commission has approved $750,000 in funding for a new Health and Science Innovation Center at Spring Hill College, with hopes of additional support from the City of Mobile. 

This state-of-the-art facility will enhance healthcare education and expand student capacity, making a significant impact on the region’s future.

Both the Mobile County Democratic and Republican parties have opened their headquarters to the public, inviting volunteers to join the final campaign push. 

These hubs will serve as centers for voter information, campaign materials, and community engagement as Election Day approaches.

Former Alabama lawmaker George Clark has launched a campaign to widen I-65 to three lanes from Huntsville to Mobile, already raising $200,000 in support. 

The project aims to boost safety, ease traffic, and drive economic growth across the state.

The University of South Alabama is buzzing with excitement as students move in for a new school year, with the Jaguar Marching Band and new academic programs like aerospace engineering leading the charge. 

As classes begin, the campus is set for a year full of dynamic opportunities and growth.

The Mobile-Tensaw Delta, one of Alabama’s most biodiverse regions, is under threat from development and climate change. 

Conservationists are working to protect this vital ecosystem, focusing on land preservation, restoring waterways, and raising public awareness.

Mobile County crossing guards are using a new device called “the pickle” to safely control traffic lights at busy school intersections without stepping into the road. 

This innovative tool, introduced by the Mobile Police Department and Alabama Department of Transportation, enhances safety for both guards and students.
