Steven Moore doesn’t sit still.
Even in the middle of a summer heatwave, he’s outside pushing through yard after yard with a weed eater in hand.
At 45, he’s cutting grass for $40 a pop, doing what he can to chip away at a $10,000 balance he still owes on his prosthetic leg.
Steven lost part of his right leg after a hit-and-run bike accident three years ago.
Since then, he’s had five surgeries, spent over two months in the hospital, and worked nonstop to support his eight kids.
“It’s hot, yeah,” he said. “But them bills don’t care about the heat.”
$52,000 Leg, $10,000 Left to Go
Insurance covered most of the cost, but not all.
The prosthetic came with a $52,000 price tag, and Steven is still on the hook for the last $10,000.
No one’s banging down his door to collect, but he’s not looking for a handout.
He wants it off the books—for peace of mind more than anything.
“I’d feel much better,” he said, standing next to his mower, sweat rolling as he preps for another job.
He’s Got Skills and He’s Got Drive
Mowing isn’t all he does. Steven rakes leaves, pressure washes, details cars, and picks up any odd job that’ll help him provide for his family.
His work ethic is solid. His attitude? Even stronger.
“I never was a person to give up,” he said. “I always try to fight my obstacles.”
Still, the tools matter. A push mower is tough with a prosthetic, so he relies mostly on a weed eater.
What would really help? A zero-turn mower. A good one. Plus a trailer and a hitch to haul it. And a backup blower—because when you’re working every day, you need gear that won’t quit on you.
Community Steps In to Help Out
After word got out about Steven’s grind, people started showing up in a big way. Someone bought him a new leaf blower.
Another person purchased that zero-turn mower he’s been wishing for—it’ll be ready at Lowe’s this weekend.
Now all he needs is the trailer and hitch to haul it around. One step closer to leveling up his work and knocking out that debt.
Call Him, He’s Ready to Work
Rain or shine, Steven’s out there. If it’s dry, he’s cutting. If it’s hot, he’s still cutting. He’s the kind of guy who prefers to earn every dollar.
If you’ve got a lawn that needs work—or a trailer that’s collecting dust—he’s easy to reach.
His number is 251-277-6772, and his Venmo is @steveomark.
You won’t have to guess if he’s working hard. He already is!
