Mobile Welcomes New Topgolf Facility

Mobile just got a little cooler with its brand-new Topgolf!

This place is a full-on entertainment hub, complete with food, drinks, and even mini-golf.

If you want to check it out, it’s where the old Hollywood Theatre used to be.

The grand opening was a blast, with officials and locals eager to whack their stresses away.

Mayor Stimpson thinks it’s a big win for Mobile because of the job opportunities it opens up (over 300 of them!).

Yup, it’s quite the talent magnet, attracting more people to Mobile for jobs and recreation.

It’s got two decks, 60 bays, and the latest tech for serious golfers.

But hey, if you can barely hit the ball, it’s all good!

You don’t have to be a pro to have fun here.

So, whether you’re passing by or planning a trip, this new Topgolf on Satchel Paige Drive is a must-visit.

Everyone’s welcome to swing, eat, and maybe even duck if someone misses a shot!

But if you’re still leaning towards expansive, “natural” golf courses, here’s a list of the best ones around.

Our New Electric Garbage Truck Has a Name!

Guess what? Mobile’s new electric garbage truck is now zipping around as “Lightning McClean!”

It’s a cute tip of the hat to Disney’s Cars’ Lightning McQueen.

Remember when the city asked for name suggestions?

Our New Electric Garbage Truck Has a Name!

Well, they got swamped with over 850 ideas and a whopping 3,800 votes!

“Lightning McClean” beat out quirky contenders like “Sparky,” “Trashy McTrashface” (my choice), and “Optimus Grime.”

What did YOU vote for?

Now, they’re jazzing up the truck with a custom wrap to flaunt its new name.

By the way, this is Alabama’s first electric garbage truck!

With over $300,000 funded by ADECA, this truck isn’t just about ditching the diesel;

It’s about cursing into a more sustainable future.

Mobile Aquatics Center Groundbreaking Delayed to 2024

So, here’s the update on the upcoming Mobile County Aquatics Center.

Currently, high school swim meets, like the AHSAA South Sectional Championship, are squeezed into Bishop State’s natatorium

200 swimmers, 400 fans, but hardly any room!

Some are cheering poolside, while others are camped out in hallways or gym bleachers.

Mobile Aquatics Center Groundbreaking Delayed to 2024

It’s definitely a tight squeeze…

But here’s the good news:

The new Aquatics Center is on the horizon.

It’s planned near the soccer fields on Halls Mill Road, and the project is certainly ambitious.

I’m talking about a massive 50-meter outdoor pool, an indoor warm-up pool, and dive wells.

The plans are solid, the site is ready, and testing is done.

But sadly, the groundbreaking, which was initially eyed for this year, has been pushed to 2024.

Why the wait?

It’s all about funding

The first phase alone is a cool $20 million.

Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson is hopeful.

She’s been championing this project, which has been in the pipeline for decades.

So, once she sorts out the funding, it’s go-time for construction!

While this waiting game might be frustrating for some, the end is finally in sight.

The new Aquatics Center will not only give Mobile’s swimmers a state-of-the-art facility but also put the city on the map for major swim meets.

B.C. Rain Receives Funding for Second Airplane Project

Great news for B.C. Rain High!

They’ve just bagged $350K to build another airplane right on campus.

Alabama State Rep. Barbara Drummond secured this funding from the state’s Education Trust Fund.

This boost should cover a pro instructor for plane building and then some.

This isn’t their first flight; B.C. Rain was the first Alabama high school to construct a plane, partnering with Tango Flight

B.C. Rain Receives Funding for Second Airplane Project

They’re all about getting the kids ready for real-world careers, in this case, in aviation, which is huge in Mobile.

With programs like this, MCPSS is making sure students are geared up for their chosen careers.

And there’s more where that came from!

Alabama’s Education Trust Fund has extra cash to support other projects in the future.

So, sky’s the limit for these young minds!
