The Mobile County Commission awarded the construction contract for Mobile Government Plaza’s new pocket park at its recent meeting.
It’s a $1.4 million contract.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2025, and the pocket park should be completed in less than a year.
The new Mobile Government Plaza Pocket Park will be located in the courtyard between Government Plaza (205 Government St.) and the Government Plaza Annex (151 Government St.).
It will be bounded by Government and Conception streets.
Commissioner Connie Hudson, who has spearheaded this project, said: “We learned during COVID-19 that Downtown Mobile needs more outdoor spaces for people to congregate, enjoy lunches, take breaks, and more. It will be a delightful space with a beautiful water fountain, benches, picnic tables, new decorative pavers and landscaping to include trees, flowering plants, and shrubs.”
We’re excited to add another park to our Mobile Alabama list!
The Mobile Government Plaza Pocket Park is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (ARPA). It was included in the ARPA Strategic Spending Plan approved by the Mobile County Commission in August 2022.
