Mobile County Teen Named 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama

Alabama has crowned its newest Distinguished Young Woman, and she’s from Mobile County! 

Shayla Holloway earned the title during the 2025 Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama program, held at Frazer Church. 

Competing against 42 other contestants, Holloway shined throughout the event, making her hometown proud.

Her big win comes with $6,000 in scholarships and the honor of representing Alabama at the National Finals in Mobile this summer. 

It’s a huge moment for Holloway and a testament to her dedication and hard work.

A Well-Rounded Winner


Holloway didn’t just win the overall title—she excelled in several preliminary categories, including community service, fitness, self-expression, and interview. 

These awards highlight her well-rounded talents, from her commitment to giving back to her ability to communicate with poise and confidence.

Her success in these categories shows she’s more than a strong competitor; she’s a role model for others aiming to make an impact.

Making Mobile Proud—Again


This marks the second year in a row that the Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama title has gone to someone from Mobile County. 

Last year’s winner, DeAsia Jones, currently attends the University of Alabama at Birmingham. 

With back-to-back wins, Mobile County continues to prove it’s a place where young leaders and achievers thrive.

Holloway’s win adds to the area’s growing reputation for producing talented, driven individuals who stand out on both state and national stages.

A Bright Future Ahead


Currently a student at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science, Holloway has big plans for her future. 

She’s set on attending Duke University to pursue her dream of becoming a pediatrician.

Her academic drive and career aspirations are an inspiration to others. 

Balancing a rigorous education with participation in Distinguished Young Women shows how determination and time management can lead to incredible accomplishments.

Looking Ahead to Nationals


Holloway’s journey doesn’t end here. 

She’ll be representing Alabama at the Distinguished Young Women National Finals this summer, held right here in Mobile. 

It’s a chance for her to showcase her talents on a larger stage and further connect with a network of accomplished young women from across the country.
