IN THIS WEEK’S RUNDOWN – May Mardi Gras, Community Shred Day, Stories of Inspiration

Mobile is rocking. The City intends to invest a $250,000 contribution to show support to a new advance manufacturing and health science facility at the Bishop State Community College. Making sure that our citizens are skilled and ready goes hand in hand with our growing diverse economy. Construction on the Advanced Manufacturing Center and the Health Sciences Facility is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2021. More about this here.

Great job, Mobile.

And hey, have you heard the buzz going on about Mardi Gras in May? If COVID cases fall, Mobile may roll out a Carnival-like parade. We could live with this. What do you guys think?

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson told the City Council on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, that preliminary discussions are already happening with the mystic societies that organize and host Mardi Gras parades each year about participating in a Friday night parade coinciding with the official commissioning of the USS Mobile, a littoral combat ship (LCS) built at Austal USA’s Mobile plant. Oh yeah! See the story here!

Despite the challenges thrown her way because of the pandemic, this local educator still finds ways to inspire children through her love of writing.

Not only does she write stories of inspiration but ones she said foster painful, yet necessary conversations.

As kids dive more into her stories, she intends to make the representation clear both from the words to images.

This is Dr. Jasmine Killiebrew’s way of giving back to our society, by using her gift to impart knowledge and wisdom to the future leaders of this community. Read more here.
