Navigating Mardi Gras in Mobile: Tips for Parking and Safety

Mardi Gras is a time of excitement and celebration, and it’s important to plan ahead to make sure that you have a safe and enjoyable experience.

This post will provide you with all the information you need about parking and safety during the Mardi Gras celebration in Mobile.

So let’s get started!

Mardi Gras Parking and Safety

Parking Spots for the Mardi Gras Parade In Mobile, AL

For those attending the Mardi Gras parade in Mobile, Alabama, there will be paid parking lots available near the parade route managed by Premium Parking and Park Mobile

These lots offer a convenient option for those who want to secure a parking spot close to the action, but it is important to note that they will come at a cost.

It is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot, as the paid parking lots are likely to fill up quickly on the day of the parade.

Keep in mind that there may also be other parking options available, such as street parking or free lots further from the parade route.

It is always a good idea to plan and research your parking options before heading out to the parade.

Mardi Gras RV Parking – 2023 Season

If you’re travelling to Mobile, Alabama, for Mardi Gras and will be in an RV, there are several parking options.

1- One option is to park at one of the paid lots managed by Premium Parking or Republic Parking, which may have designated areas for RVs.

It is recommended to contact these companies directly to inquire about availability and rates for RV parking.

2- Another option is to check with local RV parks or campgrounds, which may have space available for travellers during the Mardi Gras season.

Remember that it is always a good idea to book your RV parking spot in advance, as space may be limited and demand may be high during the Mardi Gras celebration.

Mardi Gras Safety Tips

Here are some important Mardi Gras Safety Tips from the Mobile Police Department:

Avoiding Parking Violations

Avoid parking in the no-parking areas. Look for the special purple and gold “no parking” signs along parade routes to ensure your vehicle is safe.

Handling a Towed Vehicle During Mardi Gras

Parking violations may lead to your vehicle being towed away. A temporary Impound Lot has been set up for towed vehicles under I-10 off Monroe Street between northbound and southbound Water Street during Mardi Gras parades.

Vehicles not retrieved by 11:00 p.m. will be moved to the permanent impound facility behind the Mobile Police Department Training Academy.

The cost to retrieve a vehicle from either of the impound lots is $150

Ensuring the Safety of Children

Parents are urged to take precautions to ensure the safety of their children during the Mardi Gras celebration.

Ensure an identification card with the child’s name, address, telephone contact numbers, and the name of a relative in their pocket.

If a child becomes separated from their parent or guardian during the celebration, they should be instructed to go to the nearest police officer.

The police will then try to contact the child’s parents and take them to Central Precinct at 55 N. Water Street until they can be reunited.

Street Cleaning after Parades

Please clear the area and do not cross the barricades after the last fire truck of each parade rolls through.

A team of street sweepers and trash collectors will be working to clean the streets, followed by a team breaking down and moving the barricades.

Litter Prevention

Mardi Gras is a fun and festive celebration but can also create a lot of litter.

Purple Mardi Gras garbage carts have been placed along the parade route, and blue recycling bins are available in parks for empty cans and bottles.

Let’s celebrate responsibly and keep Mardi Gras litter-free!

Other Tips

  • Attend parades in groups with family or friends.
  • Do not bring glass containers, which are prohibited by city ordinance.
  • Do not follow floats or throw any objects in the direction of floats, band members, or other parade participants.
  • “Silly String” and “Snap & Pops” are illegal and possession may result in arrest.
  • Do not cross the barricades, and be aware that the fine for this offense is $298.
  • No underage drinking is allowed, and violators may be arrested.
  • If you need police assistance, go to the nearest intersection and speak with a uniformed officer.
  • Choose a well-lit area for night parade viewing and establish a post-parade meeting place in case you become separated.
  • Park vehicles in secure areas and do not leave valuables in plain sight; store valuables in the trunk.
  • Pets are prohibited during parades downtown.
  • Skateboards and motorized scooters are also banned.
