The I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project is moving forward, with ALDOT securing federal funding and planning for tolls capped at $2.50 per trip.

alabama students can apply to colleges for free this week

During Alabama College Application Week from October 7-11, over 50 colleges and universities are waiving their application fees, giving high school seniors a chance to apply for free.

The Mobile Architectural Review Board rejected a proposal to build a gas station at the corner of Government and Broad Streets, citing concerns that the design didn’t fit the historic character of the area.

Alabama Power has reached a settlement with the EPA over its coal ash storage at Plant Barry, agreeing to pay a fine and increase groundwater monitoring. 

However, concerns remain as coal ash still sits in contact with groundwater.

Mobile Police are working to reduce vehicle burglaries, especially in areas near the University of South Alabama, by encouraging residents to lock their cars and remove valuables. 

The longshoremen’s strike that halted operations at Mobile’s port has been paused until January 15, allowing workers to return while wage and job security negotiations continue between the union and U.S. Maritime Alliance. 

Birdon is investing $38 million to upgrade a Bayou La Batre shipyard, bringing 136 new jobs and enhancing the facility’s capacity to build vessels for the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Miss University of South Alabama pageant returned after a 13-year hiatus, with Maleigha Lewis crowned as the new titleholder.

The collective aims to foster creativity and strengthen the local art scene, providing a vibrant space for both artists and the community to connect.

Ryan Williams, a 17-year-old freshman wide receiver at Alabama, has quickly become a standout player, leading all Division I wideouts in yards per catch and making game-changing plays.
