Souls Of Time

January 17 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

SOULS OF TIME, a musical drama produced by Matthews Educational Consultant, is a compelling story written and composed by Mobile natives Japonica Brown and Yvonne Matthews. The narrative follows Jade, a young girl living in Mobile, Alabama, in 2020, just before the pandemic.

Jade resides in the Down the Bay community with her emotionally abusive mother and younger brother, struggling with issues of self-acceptance and self-love. Through an unexpected twist of fate, she is transported back to 1963, finding herself in the body of Mary-Ann Thomas, a 15-year-old girl who lived in the same house 57 years earlier. Immersed in the realities of segregation-era Mobile County, Jade gains a profound understanding of the struggles faced by Black residents during this turbulent time. Her journey becomes one of self-discovery, cultural awareness, and a deeper appreciation of her intergenerational resilience and heritage.

The production showcases the talent of actors, singers, and dancers from the Gulf Coast, bringing this historically infused fictional tale to life.

SOULS OF TIME is supported by the Mobile County Commission and Commissioner Merceria Ludgood.
