Applications are now open for the 2025–2026 USS ALABAMA Crewmate Program.

Starting March 31, anyone interested can grab a form from the Battleship Park Gift Shop or download it online. The deadline to apply is April 18 at 4:00 p.m.

This longtime tradition picks six young women to serve as official representatives of the USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park and the state itself.

It’s more than a title—it’s a chance to travel, gain experience, and walk away with some serious scholarship money.

What It Takes to Join the Crew

To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 20 as of March 27, 2025.

They also need to live in either Mobile or Baldwin County during the application process and throughout their year of service.

The selection process isn’t random. A panel looks for poise, confidence, and strong communication.

The application includes references and an interview, so it’s more than just a smile—it’s about how well someone represents the spirit of the Battleship.

Perks and Scholarships for the Crewmates

The six chosen Crewmates don’t just get bragging rights—they get scholarships.

Miss USS ALABAMA receives $3,000, Miss USS DRUM receives $2,500, and the other four Crewmates each receive $2,000.

All scholarship funds can be used at the college or university of their choice.

Uniforms and accessories are covered, along with travel expenses for out-of-town events.

And they’re never flying solo—chaperones from the Battleship Park staff are with them every step of the way.

A Role With Real Responsibility

Crewmates take part in events across the state.

From festivals and parades to official ceremonies, they’re the face of one of Alabama’s most iconic landmarks.

It’s a chance to meet leaders, connect with the community, and gain confidence in front of a crowd.

The role also comes with a legacy. Since 1967, over 300 women have served as Crewmates.

Many have used the experience as a launchpad for careers in education, public service, communications, and more.

The scholarship is a bonus—but the real value shows up for years after the term ends.

Why It Matters in 2025

With more events returning, more eyes on the Gulf Coast, and more young leaders stepping up, this year’s Crewmate class will have plenty of chances to shine.

Their presence helps boost tourism, keep local traditions strong, and connect younger generations with the region’s history.

It also adds a little spark to everyday life.

Seeing Crewmates out in the community reminds people that leadership comes in many forms—and sometimes, it starts with a scholarship application and a simple “why not me?” attitude.
