Chickasabogue Park is finally making its comeback! After three years of renovations, Mobile County’s prized outdoor playground is reopening on Sunday, February 23 with a big community celebration.

Expect a party. Think ribbon-cutting, face painting, food trucks, lawn games, and plenty of fresh air. If you’ve been itching for a place to stretch your legs, paddle the waterways, or let the kids run wild, this is the place.

A Fresh Look for an Old Favorite

This isn’t just a fresh coat of paint. Chickasabogue has been through a full-on glow-up. The 1,100-acre park in Eight Mile got a major overhaul, including:

  • A brand-new day-use area with more parking
  • A playground ready for climbing, sliding, and swinging
  • A splash pad for cooling off on hot days
  • Multipurpose courts that work for basketball, pickleball, or tennis
  • New restrooms, a pavilion, and an upgraded disc golf course
  • Improved hiking and biking trails for outdoor adventures

After three years of work, the park is ready to welcome visitors back in style.

What’s Next for Chickasabogue?

Even though the park is reopening, the upgrades aren’t over yet.

County officials say they’re still working on the camping area, and there’s a big renovation planned for the beach and boat launch.

That means even more improvements are coming.

The best part? The park stays open while those projects happen, so there’s no more waiting on the sidelines.

Plan Your First Visit Back

If you’re heading to the grand reopening, bring a lawn chair and get ready to enjoy the afternoon.

Want to hit the water? Kayakers and canoers should bring their own boats.

One quick note—alcohol isn’t allowed in Mobile County parks. Stick to the food trucks and soak up the scenery.

Big Investment, Big Payoff

A $9 million price tag made this transformation happen, with most of the funding coming from oil and gas revenues through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA). That means this was a serious investment in making outdoor spaces better.

Chickasabogue is back, better than ever, and ready for adventure.

If you’ve missed it, now’s the perfect time to rediscover what makes it such a gem.
