Mobile leaders have finally broken ground on the long-awaited Three Mile Creek Greenway.
This awesome project will connect Downtown Mobile to the Langan Municipal Park area.
And now it’s finally happening, thanks to organizations like the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The greenway already has a stretch open since 2017.
You can go there for a run, walk, or bike ride.
Folks love it!
There are big plans for the future.
The next phase will start near Langan Park and extend the greenway even further.
They’re also working on two more sections.
One will take you from Tricentennial Park to Downtown Mobile.
The other will connect University Hospital to Mill Street Park with a fancy new pedestrian bridge.
The ultimate goal is to have a continuous trail that goes across the I-65 corridor.
It’s a bit of a challenge with the rail and highway crossings, but they’re determined to make it happen.
They’re trying to get grants to help fund this undertaking.
Once it’s all done, the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail will cover a whopping 6 ½ miles!
That means residents and visitors will have easier access to parks, local infrastructure, and Downtown.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson is very excited about it.
He thinks it’ll bring the community together and give folks more opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature.
So, get some new sneakers, dust off the old bike, and get ready for fun days under the sun.
The city is making big moves, and we’re all in for a treat!
