Pizza! The Best Slices in Mobile

So you’re on the hunt for the best pizza in Mobile Alabama. Read on then.

Italians get the credit for coming up with one of man’s greatest inventions: the pizza. This versatile cheesy treat was brought here by immigrants back in the late 19th century. These days, the whole United States chows down on about a whopping 100 acres of pizza a day.

Pizza can be a personal or communal experience because it’s the best comfort food there is. It’s standard party fare and a complete meal. You could choose to put a wide variety of ingredients on it. Just don’t let the Italians know if you’re into pineapple or chocolate.

Best Places to get pizza in Mobile Alabama

If you’re a stickler for tradition, you probably prefer the classic tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil toppings. If you’re a meat lover, the typical choices are pepperoni, sausage, grilled chicken, bacon, prosciutto, and ham.

As a lighter option, you could choose arugula, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, and olives. Some prefer to take the seafood route (which is still authentic) and go for shrimp, anchovies, scallops, calamari, and crab meat.

Whew, I could go for a slice or two (or three) right now. So who has the best pizza in Mobile Alabama? Below are the strongest contenders in the pizza game in all of Mobile.

Pizzeria Delphina

A lot of Mobilians consider this the best pizza place in town. Since we’re in Port City, Pizzeria Delphina has access to fresh, high-quality seafood, as evident in their Frutti Di Mare. Their dishes are authentic, generously portioned, and reasonably priced.

Of course, the star is their pizza, but they do serve other Italian meals like pasta, calzones, salads, and strombolis. Pizza by the slice is available during lunch hours.

Mellow Mushroom

Mellow Mushroom is a bar that serves stone-baked pizzas. They offer six variants, including options for vegans and vegetarians (like their Holy Shiitake Pie). Pizza is the perfect beer mate as it is, but Mellow Mushroom’s pies are something special. Customers often rave about their homemade crust in particular. The service is pretty excellent too.

Cortlandt’s Pizza Pub

Cortlandt’s has been a favorite local hangout for a while now. They serve 11 types of pizza, but you’re free to create your own masterpiece if you like your pie a certain way. They cook their pizza in a brick oven, and they also carry a decent selection of draft beer.

Cortlandt’s is the kind of place where the owner might drop by at the end of your meal and ask how you liked it. The atmosphere is very light and ideal for friends and family.

The Spiffy Fox Pizza and Pub

Looking for a local hidden gem? The Spiffy Fox is a cute little renovation in the Leinkauf Historic District. They have 11 specialty pies and the option to build your own. Aside from the usual favorites, they have more “out there” pies like the “Tripple P” that has white sauce, teriyaki-glazed pineapple, Canadian bacon, mozzarella, and pancetta.

They also have a dessert pizza called the Jilly Pie which is essentially an open-faced apple pie topped with honey-whipped mascarpone. Lastly, aside from the pizza, they are famous for their french fries fried duck fat. Divine.

Navco Pizza

Navco is a little mom-and-pop pizzeria popular for its good value. They serve six types of pies, and they do it right. Nothing fancy, but they let their top-notch ingredients sing because of the simplicity of their combinations.

Their modest menu also includes a variety of subs, pasta, and calzones. If you’re looking for a straightforward pie with no shortage of toppings, Navco is hard to beat.

Support Local

During this time, it’s important to support local businesses to help keep them afloat. All of the places listed above practice social distancing and are set up for pickups. So if you’re looking to get a good pizza fix, try the best pies that Mobile has to offer. And while you’re at it, you might want to try the best burgers in town or check out some other unique restaurants in Mobile AL.
