Remember Ben’s?
That BBQ joint that closed in 2018, leaving everyone in a state of BBQ withdrawal?
Well, ready your napkins because this local gem is about to get revived!
Restauranteur Will Duaiotti, the guy behind Foosackly’s chicken finger chain, and Chef Jeremiah Matthews of Southwood Kitchen are going to make this happen.
They’re bringing the magic back to its original spot at 552 N. Section St.
Matthews gets asked about Ben’s A LOT — at least 15 to 20 times a day!
It’s clear that Ben’s holds a special place in the community’s hearts, and now, it’s finally making a grand return.
Ben’s Jr. wasn’t just any barbecue joint — it was a cozy, quirky place that served up juicy burgers, finger-lickin’ ribs, and lip-smacking seafood.
And those homemade pies? Pure heaven!
This all dates back to the 50s when Ben Smith owned the original Ben’s in Mobile.
Kenny Lee, who learned from Ben, opened his own branch on the Causeway in the swingin’ 60s.
Then Hurricane Frederic wiped it out in ’79.
Eventually, Kenny’s son, Bubba Lee, opened Ben’s again in Fairhope in 1986, and it became an instant local legend.
Now, Fusaiotti and Matthews are on a mission to continue its legacy while adding their own spin.
It hasn’t been without its hitches, with construction delays and whatnot, but they’re getting closer.
The duo is aiming for a grand reopening this summer!
