Tourists and local explorers flock to America’s fishing towns for the fresh seafood, tranquil scenery, and exciting attractions that these communities offer.
And what do you know, there’s an excellent one 30 minutes away!
Sure, Alabama boasts tons of water activities and seafood delights. However, it’s Bayou La Batre that made the list of the 10 Most Charming Fishing Towns in America by TheTravel.
TheTravel is a pretty big deal, and it makes sense that the Seafood Capital of Alabama is worthy of making their list.
(one of their local restaurants made our 2023 Eating Project!)
If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out this quiet little fishing town in the southern part of Mobile County.
About 2,500 people call it home, and many more will recognize it as the setting of the 1994 film Forrest Gump.
The town’s population is diverse due to the influx of Southeast Asian refugees during the Vietnam War.
It’s definitely not the hippest or most metropolitan city, with galleries and hotels. However, there’s no shortage of shrimping boats and modest eateries that serve the freshest fruits of the bay!
