Airbus Takes the Lead in the Jet Race

The year 2024 was a high-flying one for Airbus, as the company soared past Boeing in jet deliveries and orders.

With 766 commercial jets delivered compared to Boeing’s 348, Airbus showed why it’s the name on everyone’s radar in the aviation world.

Their star players? The A320neo family of jets, especially the A321neo, which is stealing the show with its unmatched size and range.

Narrowbody Jets Dominate the Skies

In the battle of narrowbody jets—the workhorses of domestic and medium-range flights—Airbus left Boeing in the dust.

They delivered 602 A320neo jets, more than doubling Boeing’s 260 deliveries of the 737 Max.

The larger A321neo proved to be a fan favorite, offering airlines the capacity and range they need, leaving Boeing scrambling without a true competitor in this space.

Boeing’s Bumps in the Road

Boeing had a rough ride last year, facing well-documented challenges.

From cutting 737 Max production after a dramatic midair fuselage incident to a 52-day strike that stalled production, it was a year full of turbulence.

Even as production restarted, the focus on restoring quality and safety meant things moved at a snail’s pace.

Supply chain woes added to the mix, with shortages of everything from engines to seating keeping the entire industry in check.

Airbus Rises Above the Challenges

Despite similar supply chain struggles, Airbus powered through, emerging as the leader of the pack.

With eight A320 assembly lines spread across Europe, China, and even Mobile, Alabama, Airbus had the global reach to stay ahead.

Now, the company is doubling down, with plans to ramp up A320 production from 50 per month in 2024 to a staggering 75 per month by 2027.

To make it happen, Airbus is adding another assembly line in Mobile and expanding further into Asia by 2026.

A Strong Finish and a Promising Future

Airbus didn’t just win the delivery race—they dominated the sales charts too, securing 826 orders in 2024, more than double Boeing’s 377.

Mobile played a starring role in this success, with its state-of-the-art assembly line contributing to the production of Airbus’ in-demand A320 family.

The city isn’t slowing down either; plans are already in motion to add another assembly line in Mobile by 2026, further cementing its position as a cornerstone of Airbus’ global operations.

With strategic growth, increased production, and a strong portfolio of orders, Airbus—and Mobile—are soaring into a bright future.
