3/5-3/9: Southeastern Theatre Conference:
Mobile Convention Center: Over 4,000 actors, professional company representatives, design and technical professionals, and those who practice theatre as a vocation and those who hold it as their avocation – will gather for the nation’s largest theatre convention in Mobile!
3/6: Government Street Forum:
Government St Presbyterian Church: The Government Street Forum is lunch and a speaker on Thursdays. Lunch costs $7 and is served at noon; the forum begins at 12:30 p.m. No charge to attend the forum. This Thursday’s speaker is Jaime Betbeze, Barton Academy Foundation.
3/7: First Friday ArtWalk in Fairhope:
Eastern Shore Art Center: On the first Friday of every month the Art Center welcomes 500 plus visitors, free of charge, for the exhibit openings. ArtWalk is held from 6 to 8 pm and begins at the Eastern Shore Art Center.
3/8: The Funky Monkey 5K & Fun Run:
University of South Alabama Intramural Fields: 5K follows a USTAF-certified course through the University of South Alabama campus. Sign up early to get a Funky Monkey moisture-wicking race t-shirt.Also, don’t forget about the Funky Monkey finish party where Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe will create Mobile’s Biggest Banana Split at more than 50-feet long!
3/8: Chili Cook-Off:
The Grounds: 1035 Cody Road : The 25th Annual Chili Cook-Off is Mobile’s “hottest” charity event where teams compete for bragging rights on who has the best chili in town. Proceeds will be used for programs to teach the importance of early detection and prevention, patient services and life saving cancer research.
Mobile Public Library, Ben May Main Library (701 Government St.): Calling all ages! But children under six must be accompanied by an adult. Beginning at 1:30 PM through 3 PM get ready for LEGO-MANIA! Oh and it’s FREE!
3/10: Go Kickball Spring Season!
Sage Park in Mobile and Al Trione Park in Daphne: Registration ends on March 10th and the season starts on March 20th. This 8-week season will be filled with fastballs and base stealin’ all the while having the premier social experience with a 1,000 of your closest friends!
3/12: St. Paul’s Music Festival:
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church University of Montevallo Fifty Voice Concert Choir, Melinda S. Doyle, Director Program includes five of the Neue Liebeslieder Walzer, Op. 65, Johannes Brahms, The One Hundred Fiftieth Psalm, Howard Hanson, Exultate Deo, Hans Leo Hassler, Spirituals, and more!
3/15: Green Dress Run!
O’Daly’s Irish Pub, 564 Dauphin St.: Grab that green dress and join us for one the best 5K’s Mobile has to offer. All proceeds benefit Child Advocacy Center. Course starts at 564 Dauphin Street in downtown Mobile and runs through parts of midtown and finishes at 564 Dauphin Street.
Upcoming event: 3/20: Bud and Brews:
Providence Hospital, Mobile: The 2nd Annual Buds & Brews event is held in conjunction with the Festival of Flowers to benefit the Providence Hospital Foundation. Lee Yankie and the Hellz Yeah Trio will be the musical entertainment for the night and you’ll be able to sample great beer from local breweries!
Upcoming event: 3/28: 2014 Village of Spring Hill Sidewalk-A-Thon
Village of Springhill, Mobile: Get out and go for a 1.6 mile walk to raise money for new sidewalks in the City and to promote exercise! The registration fee is only $10, and you will receive a free t-shirt if you register by Thursday, March 13! Last year they successfully raised $30,000 for new sidewalks, & used this money to secure a matching grant in the amount of $150,000 for new sidewalks.
