The Creative Crossings Art Competition was held Saturday and dozens of artists of all ages participated in making crosswalks pieces of art for the day. Looking for fun entertainment instead of scary Halloween activities this October? Returning this fall season, Thriller Nights of Lights is a family-friendly drive-thru light show synchronized to music playing through your car radio. Giant spiders, spooky eyes, friendly ghosts, and tumbling scarecrows are just a few of the displays you’ll see dancing to a fun variety of music. The only show of its kind in the country, Thriller Nights of Lights will thrill kids and adults of all ages.

10/4: Meditation & the Art of Happy Living
Wednesday – 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, USA Library Auditorium
Admission: Free, Reservation Required

The Meditation Center of Alabama presents “Meditation & the Art of Happy Living,” a free and open to the public lecture and dinner. Come hear Dawn Barie, a licensed psychotherapist who specializes in mindfulness and meditation-based therapies. Enjoy an evening of lecture, guided meditation, and dinner provided by Bangkok Thai.

10/4: J J Grey & Mofro

From the days of playing greasy local juke joints to headlining major festivals, JJ Grey remains an unfettered, blissful performer, singing with a blue-collared spirit over the bone-deep grooves of his compositions. Each year, Visit Mobile hosts an Annual Stakeholder Meeting at The Saenger Theatre to share with our stakeholders the previous year’s accomplishments and introduce the coming year’s main goals and initiatives.  This year, enjoy talks from several different team members on each of their department’s top efforts and plans. Following the business meeting, a casual street party kicks off directly in front of the Saenger so guests can network and mingle.

10/6 – 10/8: 3 Day Meditation Retreat

Join the Meditation Center of Alabama for a 3 Day Meditation Retreat entitled “Self Discovery & Empowerment through Meditation.” Enjoy three days of yoga, Qigong, meditation, lectures, private meditation consultations, and group discussions. 10/6: Johnny Hayes & The LoveSeats Album Release Party

Hometown hero and star of The Voice returns to Callaghan’s for the release of his new CD! Johnny Hayes, recently off Season 12 of NBC’s The Voice, and his band, The LoveSeats, have been playing shows, writing, and spending time in the studio all summer in preparation of the upcoming release of their debut self-titled album. Johnny’s work on The Voice with Coach Adam Levine and his work with John Legend continues to shape his feel and sound as he tours through the summer with his band. The band’s sound is heavily influenced by blues, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll music. Let’s celebrate this local celebrity!

Walk in memory of someone you love, or create a team. Join nearly 1 million Americans at 300+ events across the country to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Not only are you raising funds for research and education, but you’re also raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and stroke WHILE raising heartbeats and building a heart-healthy Mobile! The 2017 Mobile Heart Walk is a celebration of life, a festival of hearts beating healthier for good.

10/7: Art & Paddle, Peninsula Style

Sponsored by Thompson Engineering and Coldsmith, Ryder and Associates, Art & Paddle — Peninsula Style is a fundraiser that features art of all kinds. Enjoy leisurely family-friendly paddling hosted by Dog River Clearwater Revival, shop handcrafted goods, and jam out to music by Eric Erdman, Ryan Balthrop, and LA Armour. All donations received help implement the community’s Master Plan for Low Impact redevelopment of Mobile’s only coastal community.

10/7: ARC Yogathon and FUNdraiser
Saturday – 10 am – 5 pm, Cathedral Square
Admission: Donations of $10 per class or $35 for all classes suggested
Ages: All
Seven back-to-back yoga classes with some of the area’s most inspiring, genuine, compassionate, and magical yoga teachers, plus free vegan food, a visionary art display by Renee Hoadley, and more! All donations go to supporting ARC’s (Awakening Respect and Compassion for all Sentient Beings) mission to awaken respect and compassion for all sentient beings and our precious planet.  All ages and all levels. Please bring your own mat.

10/7: Festival of Flavor

Presented by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, the Festival of Flavor is your chance to taste the best food and wine from all over the world. From food trucks to world-renowned chefs, there’s a taste for everyone. Don’t worry about missing the game–the festival offers a viewing area for all the big games! Come taste, shop, drink and enjoy a day in Old Towne Foley.

10/7: Sips and Smokes
Saturday – 5:30 pm, Royal Street Tavern
Admission: $42 per person

This is the fourth Sips and Smokes event. Enjoy 5 featured scotches from Macallan – 10, 12, 15 and 18 year, plus Macallan’s Edition #2 and a cigar selected by the Tinder Box. The event will be held on the 8th floor terrace, weather permitting. Tickets are $42 and are limited to just 40 people. Tickets available in the Royal Street Tavern only. So, come spend the evening tasting these world-class scotches with a fine cigar. No need to worry about missing the games–big screen TV’s will be playing all the college games.

10/10: Red Shoe Brew

Ages: 21+
Join the Red Shoe Society for the 4th annual ‘Red Shoe Brew.’ Featuring local brews from Haint Blue Brewing Company, heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine, entertainment, prizes, house tours and more, this open house event is an evening for local young professionals, 21 years of age and older, who are interested in learning more and becoming involved with the Red Shoe Society of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile. The Red Shoe Society is a group of local young professionals dedicated to supporting the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile. Admission is free, but donations to the Share-A-Night Fund will be accepted.

10/10: A Night Honoring Heroes
Tuesday – 5:30 pm, Mobile Convention Center
Admission: $150 per person, Sponsorships Available
Ages: All
A Night Honoring Heroes is an inaugural gala to benefit USA Medical Center’s Level 1 Trauma Center. The evening will highlight the courage and dedication of the teams that care for patients when trauma strikes. The event will be held from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., on Tuesday, October 10, at the Mobile Convention Center. Individual tickets are $150 per person; sponsorships are also available.

 

10/4: Brown Bag in Bienville

The weather is changing, and it’s perfect for lunch outside! Catt Sirten, along with the City of Mobile Special Events Dept., is bringing back Fall Brown Bag in Bienville Square every Wednesday until the end of October. Grab your lunch and enjoy live music in the Square!
