1/1/14: Annual Slip & Slide Polar Bear Dip:
The Hangout, Gulf Shores: Start the new year off with a 33 ft. two lane slip& slide into the Gulf! All participants will be treated to a free buffet and all will enjoy live music by Grayson Capps. There will be prizes for the best costumes and the best teams.
1/3/14: Auditions for The 39 Steps:
Mobile Theatre Guild (14 N Lafayette St): Patrick Barlow’s stage adaptation of the Alfred Hitchcock film, based on the novel by John Buchan; director: Eric Browne. Requires 3 men and 1 woman who possess a “mastery of accents and physical comedy.” Those auditioning must present a 45 – 60 second comedic monologue and read from the script. Get your act together now!
1/3/14: First Friday Artwalk:
Downtown Fairhope: On the first Friday of every month the Art Center welcomes 400 plus visitors, free of charge, for the exhibit openings. Visitors are treated to refreshments made possible by generous local business sponsors.
1/4/14: Greer’s/ AL.com Press Register Mardi Gras Parade:
Downtown Mobile: A Mardi Gras parade will be held in the streets of downtown Mobile starting at 6:30 pm. 16 Mardi Gras societies will be represented with floats & throws for the crowd. Several local high school marching bands will join the parade, as well as the bands and cheerleaders from each participating Bowl team! Don’t miss out!
1/4/14: Spectronics Fireworks Show:
Cooper Riverside Park, One South Water Street: Immediately following the Mardi Gras parade, a fireworks display over the Mobile River will highlight the festivities and set the tone for the official pre-game pep rallies and street party!
1/5/14: GoDaddy.com Bowl:
Ladd Peebles Stadium: The GoDaddy Bowl will host a southern-style shrimp boil to welcome the coaches and players of each Bowl team, administration, both conference commissioners and their support staff, local & national media representatives, local and national corporate sponsors, Mobile city officials, and invited guests.
1/6/14: Food for the Birds:
Jon Archer Center, 1070 Schillinger Road: Regina Gunn will demonstrate making a birdseed wreath, using a recipe for a Bundt pan size wreath that all your feathered friends will love. Participants will learn how to decorate and hang a birdseed wreath and other possibilities for design using the same recipe. A Mobile County Master Gardener event. Bring a lunch and a friend. Drinks provided.
1/8/14: Networking at the Chamber:
Mobile Chamber of Commerce: Networking@Noon is a bi-monthly event offering members 45 seconds to introduce themselves and their business. Following a brief presentation, introductions and lunch, attendees are invited to continue to network.The event is limited to Mobile Area Chamber members only, and one representative per company.
